Gazprom Head Visits Ashgabat, Meets Turkmen President

The Head of the Russian energy giant Gazprom Alexei Miller during a working visit to Turkmenistan on Wednesday held a meeting with the country’s President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, according to the press release issued by Gazprom.

As part of the visit, Alexey Miller also held talks the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty (People's Council) of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The meetings considered the progress and prospects for cooperation in the gas sector, Gazprom said in the statement.

In July 2019, Gazprom signed a five-year contract to purchase natural gas from the Turkmen state-owned natural gas producer Türkmengaz (Turkmen Gas) State Concern (for the period through June 30, 2024). The contract envisages purchase of 5.5 bcm of Turkmen gas by Gazprom a year.
