“Chronicles of Turkmenistan” has been informed that Galina Kucherenko was arrested for 15 days. The female is being kept in the detention facility located in the village of Arzuv. Valeria, Kucherenko’s daughter, is prevented from delivering anything to her mother since the woman allegedly has everything she needs.
The woman was arrested based on the application filed by her neighbors who complained about the unhygienic conditions in the apartment block owing to cats and dogs Kucherenko keeps in her apartment. The trial over the civil activist was held on the day of the arrest, 7 December.
Let us recall that on that day a group of unidentified individuals, who introduced themselves as law enforcement officers, broke into Galina’s apartment.
They broke the metal door and forcibly took a mother and daughter with them.In the evening Valeria was released and received a fine of 50 manats for resisting police.
The international campaign was launched in Galina Kucherenko’s support. Several diplomatic missions contacted the Turkmen authorities for explanations.
International human rights organizations expressed concern over actions of the Turkmen law enforcement officers.
