Ahead of the residents of Turkmenistan is a significant cold snap on the New Year’s Eve. According to forecasters, rain and snow will fall in Ashgabat from 25 to 26 December. By nightfall, the air temperature will drop, and frosts down to -9 degrees Celsius will be recorded throughout the country.
There will be heavy precipitation in the Balkan, Akhal, Dashoguz Regions, as well as in the central part of the Mary Region.In some areas, the snow cover will be as high as 10-15 centimeters.
It will be noticeably getting frostier on December 27 in the north and north-east of Turkmenistan, where the night air temperature will drop from -6 to -11 degrees.
In Lebap, sub-zero temperatures will be as low as 13 degrees in the last decade of December. Frosty weather on December 28 will be recorded in the Mary and Dashoguz Regions. Moreover, winter nights in the Akhal Region are also expected to be cold with a temperature from -3 to -8o C.
December of the outgoing year 2020 turned out to be generous in precipitation. For the first time, after the past two years, snowfalls occurred in Ashgabat. Thus, on the night of December 10, a rare weather phenomenon for Turkmenistan was recorded a mix of frozen rain with precipitation at a subfreezing temperature.
Heavy snow fell in the central regions of the Garagum Desert, where the precipitation thickness was 12 centimeters. A temperature at the desert areas in the Dashoguz Region reached -17 degrees.
Frosts in the metropolitan area remained for 7 days, due to which residents of the country were sent SMS notifications with recommendations to wear warm clothes in order to protect their health during cold weather.
Furthermore, TMCELL subscribers were sent notifications from the Police Road Traffic Supervision Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan, warning of attention and caution on the roads due to the icing surface.
In the coming weekend, frosty subzero temperatures will be recorded, so get prepared for the cold in advance in order to avoid seasonal colds.
