Three clubs representing the Higher League of Turkmenistan in football “Ahal”, “Altyn Asyr” and “Merv”, as well as the vice-champion of the country in futsal “Kopetdag” - have successfully passed the licensing process, which is the main requirement for participation in international tournaments under AFC auspices for the 2023/2024 season.
According to the Football Federation of Turkmenistan, “Ashgabat” has also successfully passed the licensing process with the above clubs.
Let us note that this year “Ahal” will represent Turkmenistan in the main club football tournament in Asia - the AFC Champions League. “Altyn Asyr” and “Merv” will defend the country's honor at the second most important Asian tournament - the AFC Cup.
At the same time, if the Ashgabat team was lucky to start the path for the trophy immediately from the group stage, then the Mary team has yet to qualify there through two qualifying stages.
As Turkmenportal wrote earlier, the bronze medalist of the championship of Turkmenistan “Merv” will meet with the silver medalist of the championship of Kyrgyzstan “Alai” on August 15.The winner of the match “Merv” “Alai” will meet on August 22 with the bronze medalist of the championship of Tajikistan “Khujand”.
The winner of this match will get the right to play in the group stage of the tournament in the Central zone along with the clubs “Ravshan” (Tajikistan), “Altyn Asyr” (Turkmenistan) and “Abdysh-Ata” (Kyrgyzstan).
It should also be noted that “Kopetdag” has received an international license and will now be able to represent Turkmenistan in the AFC Futsal Club Championship.
The AFC Club Licensing Rules are the main working tool, including the requirements that clubs must meet in order to participate in the Champions League and AFC Cup. The system establishes quality standards and procedures by which clubs are assessed for continuous improvement.
