On 3 December, at the session of Turkmenistan’s Security Council, Prosecutor-General Batyr Atdayev briefed President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov that former Interior Minister Isgender Mulikov had been arrested.
A video featuring Mulikov making confessionary statements in a prison uniform was shown during the session.
Charges of large-scale bribery were initiated against the former minister. During the search of personal belongings large amounts of money and a lot of jewelry items were identified in his house.
Let us recall that Mulikov was relieved of his post on 1 October, 2019.
He was also deprived of all awards and reduced in rank from Lieutenant General to the police major.
Mulikov had occupied the position of the Interior Minister for 10 years, starting from May, 2009.
During his tenure he was reprimanded by the head of state 12 times with three latest reprimands issued in 2018 and 2019 with “the final warning” wording.
Mammetkhan Chakyev was appointed as his replacement.
