Flooding in Libya: the number of missing people exceeded 10 thousand

According to the latest data, the number of victims of the flood in Libya exceeded 2 thousand people, and 10 thousand citizens are missing, reported the agency “Belta” with reference to Reuters.

The head of the delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Tamer Ramadan, announced the number of dead and missing persons.

The country's authorities have declared three days of mourning for the deceased. In addition, international assistance was requested, and the Cyrenaica region was declared a disaster zone. A two-day curfew was imposed in the affected regions.

The cause of the disaster was hurricane “Daniel”, which hit the north-eastern part of Libya on September 10. Storm winds and rains have destroyed homes, hospitals and other infrastructure facilities. Due to the breach of the dam, the city of Derna suffered the most.
