Firestorm in Greece: Attica in a ring of fires

A dramatic situation is unfolding in the Greek region of Attica: seven settlements are under threat due to a rapidly spreading forest fire. The fiery element, driven by strong winds, is inexorably moving towards residential areas, MIR24 reports.

The fire broke out last Sunday near the village of Varnavas and quickly gained momentum. Eyewitnesses report impressive pillars of fire reaching 50 meters in height. The situation is significantly aggravated by the dry and hot weather established in the region with air temperatures up to +34 degrees.

For security reasons, authorities have already evacuated residents of the historic city of Marathon. On the outskirts of Athens, a real battle with fire has unfolded - more than 400 firefighters are making every effort to contain the spread of the flames.

Thick smoke from the fires has seriously deteriorated air quality in the region. Residents are advised to remain indoors and keep windows closed. The situation remains tense, and rescue services continue to work intensively, trying to bring the fire under control.
