Extraordinary Meeting of Turkmenistan’s People's Council Scheduled For February 11

Extraordinary meeting of the Halk Maslahaty (People's Council) chamber of Milli Gengesh (National Council), the bicameral parliament of Turkmenistan, will be held on February 11. The session will be held in the video conference format between the capital Ashgabat and the administrative centers of the country's velayats.

Turkmen President, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed the Resolution on holding of the extraordinary meeting on Tuesday, the country’s official media reports.

The upcoming Halk Maslahaty meeting will consider the main directions of political, socio-economic and cultural development of the country for the next 30 years, as well as other important issues related to the life of society and the state.

The meeting will feature a video link connecting the Maslahat Palace in Ashgabat with Türkmeniň Ak Öýi building in Ahal velayat, and Ruhyýet palaces in Balkan, Dashoguz, Lebap and Mary velayats.

In the cabinet meeting held earlier this year, President of Turkmenistan announced the holding of the extraordinary session of the Halk Maslahaty and instructed Deputy Chairman of the Government Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Chairman of the Mejlis of Milli Gengesh Gulshat Mammedova and Deputy Chairman of Halk Maslahaty Kasymguly Babayev to ensure overall coordination of all work related to the extraordinary meeting.

The decision to switch to a bicameral parliamentary system in Turkmenistan was made in September 2020. Elections to the new constitutional body Halk Maslahaty were held on March 28.

In April last year, President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov was elected as Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty chamber of Milli Gengesh.
