Exposition in the Main Museum is dedicated to the history of the Great Silk Road

The thematic exposition dedicated to the historical and cultural rarities and exhibits, reflecting the phenomenon of the Great Silk Road is arranged in the State Museum. The dominant of the exposition is a stand that presents the book by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov "Turkmenistan is the heart of the Great Silk Road" as well as the sculpture of small forms placed on the map of our country that is carved from a stone.

The dynamic plot, which unites the landmark symbols of the national heritage: a finest Turkmen carpet, a graceful Akhalteke horse, a hardy camel and a faithful Alabai that accompany the Turkmens throughout the course of history, symbolizes the indissoluble connection of the epochs and our people’s adherence to their original traditions.

The Great Silk Road, which passed through the ancient Turkmen cities of Nisa, Abiverd, Serakhs, Merv, Dehistan, Kunya Urgench, Amul facilitated their transformation into large trade and craft centers. Museum specialists presented two ethnographic compositions, recreating the atmosphere of that era and the traditional way of life of the Turkmens.

The images of a camel, which, thanks to its endurance, served as a reliable means of transportation in a long and difficult journey through the hot desert, are widely represented in the exhibition.

Numerous sculptural images of a ship of a desert’, as well as the carpet canvases and picturesque dedications to the string of camels, as a symbol of the rapprochement of countries and peoples located on the Great Silk Road attracted the visitors’ attention.

Caravanserais, many of which became the masterpieces of architecture, were built along the line of trade missions. The artifacts discovered during archeological excavations testify to the high level of handicraft production, which was improved due to the active exchange of goods, knowledge and technologies.

The preserved fragments of the ancient monuments of architecture still surprise us with the perfection of execution and decor. One of the sections of the exhibition introduces the unique architectural artifacts, as well as ceramic products and women's adornments.

The Great Silk Road is not just a giant trade route that connects the East and the West. This is the way that laid the foundation for the international economic, political, technological and cultural interaction, engaging many nations into the integration processes that offered a powerful impetus to progress, which is clearly illustrated by the exposition.

Turkmenistan, located at the crossroads of civilizations, honoring its history and traditions, stands as an important link of the interstate cooperation in the modern coordinate system.
