Euro 2024: own goal puts Spain into the knockout stages, England shares points with Denmark

The Spanish national team defeated Italy with a score of 1:0 in the second round of the group stage of the European Football Championship, securing access to the playoffs. The match was held in Gelsenkirchen.

The only goal came in the 55th minute when Italy defender Riccardo Calafiori sent the ball into his own net.

With six points, Spain have guaranteed themselves first place in group B. Italy is second with three points, while Albania and Croatia have one point each. In the final round on June 24, Spain will play Albania, and Italy will meet Croatia.

This is the fifth European Championship in a row where Spain and Italy will face each other. At Euro 2020, the Italians defeated the Spaniards in the semi-finals (1:1, 4:2 on penalties) and subsequently became champions.

In another group stage match, England and Denmark drew 1-1 in Frankfurt am Main. Harry Kane opened the scoring in the 18th minute and Morten Hjulmand equalized in the 34th.

England lead group C with four points. Denmark and Slovenia have two points each, Serbia has one. In the final round on June 25, England will play Slovenia and Denmark will face Serbia.

Kane became the third Englishman to score in four major tournaments in a row, joining Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney.
