EU, Central Asia Special Representatives For Afghanistan Meet in Almaty

Almaty on Tuesday hosted a meeting of the Special Representatives of the European Union and Central Asian countries on Afghanistan.

The meeting participants discussed international and regional efforts for the peaceful resolution of the Afghan crisis, the active involvement of Afghanistan in regional integration processes, economic reconstruction of the country and the implementation of different infrastructure projects on its territory, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan said in its press release.

The head of the delegation of Turkmenistan, Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Hajiyev, in his speech focused on the main aspects of Turkmenistan's policy toward Afghanistan, including the TAPI project and constructive dialogue with the current Afghan authorities.

An agreement was reached to continue holding dialogues of this format on a regular basis. The sides also adopted a joint declaration on the outcome of the event.

Within the framework of the event, Hajiyev also held bilateral meeting with Deborah Lyons, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General the Head of UNAMA in Afghanistan.
