Energy partnership in Central &South Asia discussed in Ashgabat

A meeting of the Task Force on Regional Energy Cooperation in Central and South Asia (RECA) is being held in Ashgabat (March 27-28), Trend reports with reference to the Turkmen Foreign Ministry.

Assistance is provided by the Turkmen Foreign Ministry and the Energy Ministry.

Representatives of sectoral ministries and departments, as well as energy companies from Central Asia, Afghanistan and Pakistan, representatives of international and regional organizations, such as the Energy Charter, have been invited to the event.

The agenda includes the role of cross-border energy trade and regional energy security. The meeting participants are discussing trends in regional energy cooperation, new projects and the state of renewable energy sources in Central Asia.

The meeting will serve as a platform for dialogue on energy cooperation to integrate energy markets, diversify sources of supply and achieve sustainable development, the organizers note.

Turkmenistan exports electricity to Iran, Afghanistan and Turkey. Prospects for supplies to the countries of the Caucasus, Central and South Asia are being explored.

By 2024, the total volume of electricity produced in Turkmenistan is planned to increase to 33 billion kilowatt-hours, which is almost 30 percent more compared to 2018.
