Early Presidential elections will be held in Turkmenistan on March 12. Today, Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh (Lower Chamber of the Parliament) of Turkmenistan adopted the relevant Resolution, the State Information Agency reports.
To recap, the day before, speaking at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh (Upper Chamber of the Parliament) of Turkmenistan, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said that he had made a "difficult decision for himself" and noted that "the road to public administration should be given to young leaders." The Head of State, who will turn 65 on June 29, gave a reason for his decision by saying that two years ago he reached the age of the Prophet (63 years in Islam is considered the age of the Prophet Muhammad - explanatory note of Turkmenportal).
"In this regard, the Chairman of the Central Commission for Elections and Referenda was instructed to begin the relevant activities in accordance with the Constitution and legislation of Turkmenistan," the State News Agency stressed.
At the same time, Berdimuhamedov said that he intends to retain the post of Сhairman of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, to which he was elected after the establishment of a Bicameral Parliament in 2020.
Honorary elders who spoke at the Extraordinary Meeting of the Halk Maslahaty supported the decision of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov to actively involve young people in leadership positions.
"Entrusting the young generation of managers with responsible state work corresponds to the noble traditions of the Turkmen people, and this is nothing but "political heroism", it was noted in the speeches.
