The training seminar on the efficient pest control ways took place in Ashgabat.The meeting brought together the representatives of the State Quarantine Service, as well as specialists and agriscientists of the greenhouse and horticultural business, and the members of the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan.
The seminar was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Industry jointly with the Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs of Turkmenistan in the framework of the joint EU project Support for Further Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development in Turkmenistan (SARD III).
The main goal of the meeting is to improve the work of the State Quarantine Service and to support manufacturers in Turkmenistan in increasing the production of high-quality, environmentally friendly goods in the context of the state programmes on import-substitution and export-orientedness.
A well-known agricultural specialist and entomologist from the Netherlands, who arroved in Turkmenistan to take part in the seminar, told about the efficient chemical and biological methods to combat plant diseases as well as the measures to prevent the entry of non-endemic pests to the country.
"I've been working on this issue for about 40 years and given lectures on all continents, except Australia", says the project expert, entomologist.
“This is my first visit to Ashgabat and I would like to underline the high professional level of the specialists of the quarantine service of the country, as well as the compliance with generally accepted standards of the work of its laboratories.
I have drafted the list of international organizations that have an electronic database.The access to these resources will make it possible to use the actual information more effectively.
“Moreover, I have drafted the electronic catalog that provides the brief description, photos, the methods of struggle, as well as the information on each of the eight pests and two weeds that occur on the territory of your country.
For example, an endemic species - a poison weed Turkmen bitterling that is especially dangerous for horses grows in Turkmenistan.I have developed and suggested the measures to combat it”.
“The Law of Turkmenistan on Plant Protection specifies the legal regulations to ensure the plant and land protection, the efficient use of fertilizers, and the crop protection.The practical works provided during the seminar, as well as the international experience will increase the effectiveness of work in this direction,” emphasizes Dildar Hasanova, the head of the internal quarantine department of the State Quarantine Service of the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Industry.
