Dorival Junior appointed new head coach of the Brazilian national football team

The Brazilian Football Confederation announced the appointment of 61 years old Dorival Junior as head coach of the national team.

Dorival left his position as coach of the “Sao Paulo” club and replaced Fernando Diniz, who was dismissed on January 5, in the national team. Under Diniz, the Brazilians won only 2 victories in 6 matches.

In 2022, Dorival led “Flamengo” to victories in the Copa Libertadores and the Copa do Brasil before moving to “Sao Paulo”. He coached a number of Brazilian clubs, including “Atlético Mineiro”, “Internacional” and “Palmeiras”.

The Brazilian national team has not won 4 matches in a row. In qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, the team ranks 6th with 7 points after 6 rounds.
