Dialogues about the violoncello

International Cello Day and musicians-violoncellists is marked on December 29.The date of an informal holiday is chosen not casually, after all, on the same day maestro Pablo Casals the Catalan violoncellist, composer, conductor and public figure was born.

Today Turkmen violoncellists told about the creative trade how the ancient musical instrument known still since first half of XVI century is so popular.

It has appeared that in the majority not the musician chooses the violoncello, and the instrument chooses the future violoncellist. It so happens with the teacher of Ashkhabad music school Oksana Rozyeva who in her childhood was enrolled into the music school by her parents and in the class violoncellists was very few.

Since that memorable moment and to this day the violoncellist does not put aside her instrument. She not only plays for the State symphonic orchestra under the baton of conductor Rasul Klychev, but also teaches the violoncello to children.

At first to get used to the instrument which almost is of the same height with the child was difficult, Oksana Rozyeva says. But now I with confidence can tell: Thanks parents! .

Thanks to their care of our future we become musicians. The violoncello has opened for me the world, I have visited with tours different countries, and have learnt to combine business with pleasure.

The instrument was beyond for a long time already a base set in the orchestra, and today violoncellists also play solo parts.

Speaking about the violoncello in a context of the leading instrument it is necessary to remember bright concert of the honoured artist of Russia, rector of the St.-Petersburg Conservatory, violoncellist Alexey Vasilev which was held in March this year in Ashkhabad.

Violoncello music always and everywhere finds the admirers therefore as the instrument with a deep timbre transfers special mood of lyrical and dramatic pieces of music.

The violoncello sound is considered a soul voice, the teacher of the department of string instruments of Turkmen national conservatory Yusuf Gandymov says.I since my childhood have combined lessons of violin with violoncello but when the moment came to choose between two string instruments, without deliberating, I preferred violoncello.

And till now I am not sorry about my choice.I like lyricism of its sounding, whether it be the big orchestra or a solo part, violoncello does not remain unnoticed for hearing.

Playing the violoncello develops ear for music, memory, logic and creative thinking, and the repertoire for the instrument is very various. Violoncellists have possibility to play string and chamber ensembles, instrument’s possibilities are literally inexhaustible.

Certainly to master the violoncello, the maximum concentration and assiduity is required, warns Oksana Rozyeva. But these strong-willed qualities will be useful in study of any musical instrument. To all pupils-violoncellists, I wish patience, stable employment and development. They should listen classical and violoncello music more.

From all told follows that the violoncello possesses expressive “voice”. It an integral part of symphonic and string orchestras, and also in an original way sounds as a part of chamber ensemble. Many outstanding composers Peter Tchaikovsky, Michael Glinka, Louis Abbiate and others wrote the works for the soloist violoncello.

Pablo Casals in whose honour International Cello Day was created, simply adored his instruments, the musician even inserted the sapphire presented by the queen of Spain, into one of his fiddlesticks. But the most expensive instrument still is the violoncello of French musician Jean-Louis Duport created by great Antonio Stradivari in 1711.
