The video meeting “Central Asia + Islamic Republic of Afghanistan + People’s Republic of China” on December 9th gathered the deputy heads of the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan, Central Asian countries, China and Afghanistan to discuss issues of trade, economic, diplomatic, transport and communication cooperation were discussed.
The videoconference highlighted the importance of close partnership, support and solidarity to interact in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. In the current situation in the world, one cannot overestimate the efforts that Turkmenistan is making to preserve the stability of cross-border freight traffic.
Representatives of the Turkmen side proposed to work together for further technological development of points of departure and receipt of goods, the approval of a unified tariff grid and a significant simplification of customs procedures.
The participants in the meeting agreed that the peace processes in Afghanistan and the joint counteraction to terrorism are the priority tasks requiring joint efforts of the countries of the CA region and the whole world.
On the same day, the Inter-Parliamentary Union organized an online roundtable, during which Turkmen parliamentarians exchanged experience and best practices with colleagues from other countries, foreign experts and representatives of various international organizations.
During the meeting on the topic “Opportunities and Challenges in Parliamentary Monitoring and Evaluation”, the urgency of increasing the efficiency of the work of parliaments and improving the political system and democratic institutions were discussed.
The round table participants noted the growing level of interaction between national parliaments and the importance of joint activities to address contemporary global problems.
