Debris from the ISS crashes through the roof of a Florida home

A piece of debris ejected from the International Space Station three years ago has landed on the roof of a house in Florida. This is reported by daily.afisha.ru with reference to Ars Technica.

NASA experts reported that at 14:29 local time, an object believed to be debris from the International Space Station entered the atmosphere.

Five minutes later, Alejandro Otero, a resident of the southern United States, heard a loud noise and discovered that debris had broken through the roof of his house. CCTV cameras installed in the area recorded the moment of the fall.

The American published images of the cylindrical object on his social network account. According to the man, the debris not only broke through the roof and ceiling, but also flew down two floors. By luck, no one was home at the time.

Initially, the object was a container with obsolete batteries weighing 2.6 tons. It became the heaviest debris thrown from the ISS during its entire operation. Since 2021, it has slowly moved around the Earth's orbit, gradually reducing its altitude.

It was assumed that upon re-entry the container would burn almost completely. However, some experts did not rule out that its fragments could survive and reach the earth's surface.
