Container transportation by sea in Turkmenistan has increased almost 4 times

Over the 11 months of 2023, the maritime merchant fleet of Turkmenistan increased the number of containers transported by sea almost 4 times - by 277,3% compared to the same period last year - to 3846 TEU, reports the website of JSC “Marine Merchant Fleet”.

In addition to container transport, there has been an overall significant increase in the volume of cargo transport by sea. Thus, in January-November of this year, their volume increased by 21,6% compared to the same period last year and reached 2 million 64 thousand tons.

Freight turnover of maritime transport over 11 months also showed a significant increase of 19,1% and amounted to 867,149 million ton-kilometers.

Passenger turnover increased by 56,4% and amounted to 8,54 million passenger-kilometers. The plan was exceeded by 2,5 times (245,9%).

According to the report, the main increase was achieved through export transportation of crude oil and petroleum products, as well as transit cargo through the Turkmenbashy international seaport.
