Contactless payment service will be introduced in Turkmenistan

The joint-stock commercial bank of Turkmenistan “Halkbank” has developed “Digital Card” software for mobile phones. With its help, the country will introduce a contactless payment service using NFC and QR code technologies, writes the “Neutral Turkmenistan” newspaper.

As Deputy Prime Minister Hojamyrat Geldimyradov said at a government meeting, the software was developed for the purpose of widespread introduction of a digital system in the economic sector, improving the quality and expanding the range of banking services through the use of modern innovative technologies.

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, after hearing the report, emphasized that the country currently attaches special importance to the development of the digital economy. In this regard, the payment system of domestic banks is being improved and the list of non-cash payments is expanding.

The head of state noted that the new banking service “Digital Card” will be effective for citizens in carrying out payment transactions via mobile phones. He instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to achieve perfection and compliance with the time requirements of payments for goods and services.
