Construction of Turkestan- Shymkent-Tashkent High-Speed Railway to Start This Year

Construction of high-speed rail line from Kazakhstan’s Turkistan city to Uzbekistan’s capital of Tashkent will start this year, Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin said during a government meeting on Tuesday.

“The Kazakh Government takes active actions to create the tourist infrastructure in priority areas with participation of private capital. Realization of investment projects worth 1.1 trillion tenge ($2.6 billion) will start this year,” the government's press service cited Askar Mamin as saying during the meeting.

“Besides, a package of measures aimed at developing ecotourism, national parks as promising tourist destinations will be adopted in Kazakhstan,” Askar Mamin continued. “Construction of the Turkestan-Shymkent-Tashkent high-speed rail line will start to increase the influx of tourists.”

Kazakh Prime minister noted that the project will create 22,000 new workplaces in the sphere of tourism and 100,000 new jobs in allied industries.

Turkestan city is the administrative center of Turkestan Region of Kazakhstan. The city is situated near the Syr Darya river and 160 km north-west of Shymkent city.
