China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) announced that it will speed up the construction of the D branch of the gas pipeline from Turkmenistan to China, reports China Daily.

The design capacity of the fourth gas pipeline line will be 30 billion cubic meters of blue fuel per year. The pipeline originates from the supergiant “Galkynysh” field and will proceed to China through Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.

According to CNPC, last year 42 billion cubic meters of natural gas were supplied to China via existing gas pipeline branches.

From its opening in 2009 until the end of 2022, the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline transported 423 billion cubic meters of natural gas, which provided energy to more than 500 million residents in 27 regions of China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

Earlier, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed to accelerate the construction of line D of the Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline during negotiations in Beijing.
