CIS representatives in the seed production sphere discuss priorities of cooperation

22nd meeting of the CIS Intergovernmental Coordination Council on Seed Production took place in the conference hall of the Archabil Hotel in Ashgabat.The meeting brought together the representatives of relevant ministries and departments, research and production centers of the Russian Federation, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan among other countries, as well as the CIS Executive Committee.

During the meeting, organized in accordance with the Action Plan for the implementation of the Concept on Turkmenistan’s presidency over the Commonwealth of Independent States in 2019, a wide range of issues related to the further development of cooperation in the agricultural sector were discussed.

As noted, Turkmenistan pays great attention to collaboration within the CIS.Taking into account the priorities of the policy pursued by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, large-scale reforms are carried out in the agricultural sector with the aim to enhance food security and export potential of the country.

Specific measures are taken in order to increase agricultural production, including through the efficient use of land and water resources, increasing crop yields, introducing modern technologies, and the latest achievements of agricultural science.

It was emphasized that fruitful cooperation on the supply of varietal and hybrid seeds, planting material of fruit and berry crops and grapes was established between the CIS member states that contributes to the sustainable development of their agro-industrial production.

In this regard, it is important to establish an information and analytical system for managing seed production in the CIS - to further strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in the agricultural sector and interstate integration relations.

During the meeting, the issues of scientific foundations, innovative technologies and prospects for cooperation in the field of feed supply, potato, rice and corn seed production, as well as the possibilities of practical use of medical and aromatic plants, where Turkmen specialists achieved success, became the subject of special consideration.

The heads and specialists of the Federal Research Center for Feed Production of the Russian Federation, the All-Russian Research Institute of Potato Growing named after A.G.Lorkh, All-Russian Rice Research Institute, All-Russian Specialized Research Institute of Corn, All-Russian Research Institute of Medicinal Plants made presentations.

The head of the department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Industry and Land Reclamation of the Kyrgyz Republic informed the participants about the work plans to be carried out within the framework of the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between the Production and Scientific Seed Association of Russia (the Seeds Association) and the Kyrgyz Seed Association.

The reports on amendments to the Agreement on multilateral interstate specialization of production and supply of seeds of varieties and hybrids of agricultural crops, planting material of fruit crops and grapes, signed in Minsk on May 31, 2013 were presented during the conference.

Particular attention was paid to the issues related to the specialization and production of seeds of high reproductions and planting material for interstate supplies in 2020-2021.
