China is testing fully autonomous drone taxis

In Beijing, testing of unmanned (more precisely, without a driver) taxis begins, reports the website ferra.ru.

Taxi drones are completely autonomous, they do not even have such a function as control with the help of a remote security operator. The first 10 cars will be tested. The tests were licensed to Baidu (a web company and China's largest search engine) and Pony.ai (an autonomous vehicle company).

Baidu owns the Apollo Go robot taxi, so the company is interested in successfully passing drone taxi tests. According to company representatives, a trip on such transport can cost half as much as a regular taxi with a driver.
