The news agency Mehr reports that Mahmoud Vaezi, the Chief of Staff of Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, arrived in Turkmenistan on 12 September as the head of a high-ranking politico-economic delegation.
Vaezi is accompanied by senior officials from ministries of foreign affairs, petroleum, economy, roads and urban development, energy and the Central Bank of Iran.
While in Ashgabat, Vaezi is scheduled to hold talks with senior officials of Turkmenistan, including President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov, Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov and a number of other ministers and officials.
Let us recall that in mid August the Turkmen national gas holding “Turkmengas” filed a lawsuit against Iran-based NIGC to the International Court of Arbitrations demanding that the debt which, according to various estimates, ranges from $1,5 to $2 billion be paid back.
Moreover, in late August Turkmenistan has prevented cargo trucks en route from Iran to Tajikistan from crossing its border.
