Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is ready to participate in the election of the head of the Conservative Party and, accordingly, the next head of the British Cabinet, writes “Interfax” with reference to the Sky News channel.
Johnson's intentions were confirmed by Conservative MP James Duddridge. He also said that now the former prime minister is returning from a vacation in the Caribbean.
To participate in the elections, Johnson needs to score 100 nominations from Conservative MPs by 14:00 (18:00 Ashgabat time) on Monday.At the moment, 43 people openly supported him.
Former Treasury Secretary Rishi Sunak has already won 74 nominations, while House of Commons leader Penny Mordaunt is the only one who officially announced plans to participate in the elections - 18 nominations.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Liz Truss announced her resignation. Truss headed the government for 45 days.
