Boeing commits to deliver commercial airplanes to fly on biofuel by 2030

The American aerospace corporation Boeing says it will begin delivering commercial airplanes capable of flying on 100% biofuel by 2030. For this, the company intends to advance aircraft engine systems and then convince aviation regulators globally to certify the planes on biofuel as safe.

As Kommersant reports in 2018, the Boeing flight-test program made the world’s first commercial airplane flight using 100% sustainable fuels with a 777 Freighter, in collaboration with FedEx Express. As it is now, biofuels are mixed directly with conventional jet fuel up to a 50/50 blend, which is the maximum allowed under current fuel specifications.

According to the US Department of Energy, the use of biofuels can ensure reducing carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere by 80 percent.
