Belarus became a member of the SCO

On July 4, 2024, at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Astana, a ceremony was held to sign documents on Belarus’ accession to the organization. The leaders of all participating countries signed the necessary documents, officially formalizing Belarus' membership in the SCO, kun.uz reports.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was founded in 2001 in Shanghai. The main goals of the organization are to strengthen trust between the participating countries and develop cooperation in the trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural spheres. Belarus has applied to join the SCO in 2022.
