Banknotes featuring King Charles III will be issued for the first time on June 5

On June 5, 2024, new English pounds with a portrait of King Charles III will be released into circulation. New banknotes will be printed gradually, replacing worn-out ones and satisfying the growing demand for cash. This was reported by 1prof.by.

The design of the 5, 10, 20 and 50 pounds notes will remain the same, with the exception of the image of the monarch.A portrait of King Charles III will appear on the front side, and images of famous personalities on the back, as on existing banknotes.

The current banknote series features former Prime Minister Winston Churchill on the back of the 5 pounds note, writer Jane Austen on the 10 pounds note, artist William Turner on the 20 pounds note, and

English mathematician and cryptographer Alan Turing on the 50 pounds note.

The polymer banknotes featuring Queen Elizabeth II's portrait will remain legal tender and will be in circulation alongside the new ones. Banknotes with the image of Queen Elizabeth II can be exchanged for new ones at the Bank of England.

Let us remind that coins with the image of King Charles III have been in circulation since December 2022.
