The Ministry of Construction and Architecture of Turkmenistan announced an international tender for the construction of a new airport in the administrative center of the Balkan velayat. The contractor is to ensure the design and turnkey construction of a unique modern airport complex.
An innovative civil aviation facility, capable of serving 100 passengers per hour, is to be built in Jebel village (18 kilometers from Balkanbat) on the territory of the former airport of local airlines.
According to the technical conditions, the airport complex should include a passenger terminal, designed, built and equipped with all the requirements of civil aviation, an artificial 2,700-meter runway.
The airfield in the administrative center of the velayat is to be equipped with ground support facilities for receiving all types of aircrafts of the Turkmenhowayollary agency.To ensure the safety of flights on the runway, it is planned to install automated aerodrome meteorological systems, light-signal, aeronautical radio-technical equipment, equip the complex with modern aerodrome equipment, build taxiways, parking areas and terminal apron.
A powerful radar will provide full control over air traffic in the airport area.
Comfortable conditions for passengers will be created in the two-storey building of the air terminal. The first floor of the passenger terminal will house a waiting room designed for 170 seats, VIP zone and a reception and meeting hall (CIP) for official delegations.
Moreover, there will be a baby care room, a pharmacy, a buffet, office premises for the transportation service, a canteen for service personnel. The terminal premises will be equipped with electronic information boards, modern technical means of inspection, international and intercity telephone and Internet communications.
The offices of the airport administration and premises of technical services - an aviation meteorological station, an airfield control point, an aviation security service, a message switching center, an electrical lighting service for flights, a base for electrical and radio communications, air traffic control, transportation organization services among others will be located on the second floor of the building.
The third floor of the building - in the form of a tower, providing a visual view of the airfield - is designed for the command and control center of the air traffic control center. A separate building will be built for ground maintenance services, workers of special vehicles and the aerodrome service for the operation of ground structures and overhaul.
All ground services of the Balkanabat airport complex will be equipped with the latest equipment, technology and mechanisms that will ensure flight safety, maintenance of aviation equipment, airfield territory and improve passenger service.
The air terminal complex should form a single and interconnected urban planning and landscape system. The creation of a new airport infrastructure in the Balkan velayat will significantly improve the level of passenger service and bring it to high international standards.
