Azerbaijan will support the implementation of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline if the authorities of Turkmenistan decide to build it, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said in an interview with the Italian newspaper Il Sole 24 Ore, Azerbaijan State News Agency (AZERTAC) reported on Saturday.

According to him, the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline project is based on the resources of Turkmenistan. He added that if the Government of Turkmenistan decides to build this pipeline, Azerbaijan we will support it.

Additionally, Aliyev characterized the decision of Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan to jointly develop Dostluk field in the Caspian Sea as historic.

“We made this decision proceeding from the national interests of both countries, our fraternal relations,” Ilham Aliyev said, adding that the sides are currently discussing its joint development.
