Artist Aya Serhenova is a representative of surrealism, which was actively supported by Salvador Dali. Her interests to the works of genius Spanish phantasmagorist was prompted by her father, artist Aman Serkhenov and his friend Akmurat Berdiklychev.
There is no wonder as the supporters of Dali can be found among the artists of any country. When Aya had to choose her future profession, she applied the documents of Art College, which her father has graduated years before.
Many of her college mates literally raved about the painting, suffered from failures while she took the study very easy. “I was the worse painter in the first grade, - she confessed, - but we has very demanding teacher Guvanch Hojaniyazov, whom everybody respected.
That is why I had to work hard on his tasks for mastering of classic art canons but not more than that.By the fourth grade I was an average student - I did not grab stars from the sky but also was not the last student”.
The years of study went flying. It happened that I have become a mother and received diploma at the same time. However, our marriage was not happy and we divorced shortly afterwards.
I had to forget about the art and to dedicate myself to my little daughter for three years. After, my mother started helping me to take care of the granddaughter.
Three-year break gave an opportunity to form up her artistic world outlook.Probably, if everything went other way around, her talent would not be revealed so brightly and extraordinary.
She was dreaming to create as her father and family friend Akmurat Berdyklychev. In order to make some money beside her main activity, she went for a work not related to the art.
In her spare time, Aya drew some sketches in ordinary writing book, for which she was ashamed by Akmurad Berdiklychev: “Your pictures are way too good to draw them on a plain paper”.
She read a lot about Salvador Dali. She tried to look at the world with his eyes and managed it.Thus, ordinary kitchen grater has become an allegoric image of prison for her owner in the picture Captured by routine life”.
A woman, slouched from fatigue, is seen from numerous holes of a grater as is she is behind a prison fence.Aya knew the feeling of despair from the load of problems, which he had to solve by her own… Two weird-shaped carrots are the main characters in picture “Carrot Relations”.
Probably, someone will think that they did not have enough water, which reflected in their weird shapes while somebody will see them as a man and a woman who carry on some conversation.
Sitting vegetable seemed to be distressed while his opponents expresses either support or frustration. At her picture “Birth”, Aya Serhenova showed bell pepper. One of numerous seeds is pictured as human foetus.
A man, which has already been born, awaiting him outside the womb’ of bell pepper to show him the beauty of surrounding world and how interesting their friendship would be.
Everything is just the same like people have.In her works, Aya Serhenova often use the flora. Her author’s vision is rich with associations, sometime unusual, but very precise figuratively.
This was the way, black and white graphic picture “Dreams of Family Happiness” was made. The grapevine has turned into young and beautiful woman who dreams of happy marriage.
The contours of male profile and big bunch of grapes in her arms, which symbolizes fertility, indicate to the favour of such thoughts. The picture is made by a ball pen in hatch pattern.
This work is painstaking and takes a lot of time.however, the result is worth of it.Some of her works are made with regular colour pencils.
Sometimes, Aya Serhenova use coffee as a paint. “Ballerina”, “Part of Yard” and “Ginseng” are among these works.Despite the monochrome, they give a feeling of warmth and comfort.
Another work made in oil paint is a portray of Aya’s hero Salvador Dali.Energetic man with the brush in his hand sits on a ball, which raise the association with the picture of Pablo Picasso “Young Acrobat on a Ball”.
Aya significantly cut famous moustache of Dali, levelled the look of maestro but exposed his shining shoes. It seemed to us that Aya Serhenova change the look of Dali according to her style, which is not so exiting as the one belonging to Spanish genius.
However, she has managed to reflect rampant expression of the genius. …Graphic portray of her father kind face, deep look, pulsing thought… we have already seen these big expressive eyes in picture “Drop of Water Grain of Gold”.
The image broadcast the love of daughter, respect of him not only as father but mentor.Aya intentionally signed this work “SerhenowA”, having highlighted significant influence of father on her art.
Black and white portray of her daughter “I’m like my Mom”, where Eva put on mother’s robe and slippers and watches herself in the mirror.Children want to look like their parents, however this teenage girl is impartial to the painting.
Probably, artistic genes will be revealed after. Some picture are made in realistic style. These are picturesque landscapes of rural streets with cosy houses, shining with glasses of the windows and white-painted walls.
They are lyrical and charming.Series of works of Aya Serhenova is made on national theme and also with her own approach she paints only women in colour while the rest is black and white.
We can talk non stop about the works that Aya painted in the first decade of her art carrier.Number of her paintings such as “Women Film Director”, “Love with Orchids” “Expanded Still-life with Parrot in a Cage” and other are known from the exhibitions in the Museum of Visual art and the Exhibition Centre of the capital. “My dream, - the artist says, - to have my own exhibition.
Of course, I do not expect full recognition, for sure, there would be someone who will not be interested in my works. But spectator’s interpretation is important for me as the art works live in the space of dialog of emotions and views”.
We wish Aya Serhenova her wishes to come true.Undoubtedly, if he exhibition of heer works will take place, we will be supporting talented and innovatively thinking artist.
It is necessary to have unordinary world outlook and personal maturity to expand the borders of artistic perception. And this deserves respect!
