Astana will refuse plastic bags in supermarkets by 2025

Within the framework of an environmental initiative, Astana authorities announced plans to completely eliminate plastic bags in supermarkets and other retail outlets in the capital of Kazakhstan by 2025, kazpravda.kz reports.

According to the new rules, traditional plastic “T-shirt” bags will be replaced with environmentally friendly alternatives - biodegradable bags and reusable eco-bags. This decision aims to reduce the negative impact of plastic on the environment.

Compliance with the new regulations will be monitored by a specially created monitoring group with the support of representatives of the public. Details of the implementation and control of this initiative have not yet been disclosed.

It is worth noting that Astana follows the global trend to reduce the use of single-use plastic. At the moment, a ban on the use of plastic bags is already in force in 76 countries around the world.
