Ashgabat residents complain about unfair distribution of groceries in short supply delivered to their homes

About ten days ago, pursuant to the order of the Ministry of Trade, the sale of subsidized groceries in state-run stores was suspended last week and deliveries to homes of Ashgabat residents were organized.

This was done in order to eliminate queues in front of stores.

However, correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that groceries are being delivered in an irregular and haphazard manner.

The first sets of groceries have been delivered to residents of the districts of Khitrovka, Gaudan and the 20th districts. As of 18 May, residents of apartment blocks №1- №10 in the district of Parakhat-7 had their groceries delivered, some households even twice.

However, no deliveries have been organized for the residents of apartment blocks no. 15, 19, 20 and others.

The second delivery has been made to Bezmein and the 30th residential district.

Residents of some other districts have not had their groceries delivered for a long time. For instance, it was not until 21 that the groceries were first delivered to residential districts of Mir-6, Mir-5 and Mir-3.

Local residents were able to purchase sets worth 60 manats, comprised of 2 kilos of chicken drumsticks (32 manats), a kilo of sugar (10 manats) and a liter of vegetable oil (18 manats).

According to delivery men, each set is designed for six people.Double sets are delivered to those who have 12 and more people registered in the apartment, but there are few households which meet this requirement.

Only cash payments are accepted.

Groceries are delivered without charge. During the first delivery, the delivery staff make an entry in their log book indicating passport details of one of the residents, the telephone number and the number of people registered in the apartment, including children.

Those who were not at home were previously asked to come to the store.Residents are now being informed that if they do not purchase the entire food ration at once, it will not be sold later.

However, residents are not informed in advance about the date and time of the delivery. For example, on 21 May the groceries were delivered from 5 to 6 p.m.

Residents of the capital are concerned over irregular supply system. Many are pleased that they will no longer have to stand in the queue for hours while others complain about the unfair distribution of groceries and chaotic deliveries.

Many residents enquire about flour and eggs but it is unknown when these will be available. There are no flour and eggs in state-run stores whereas in privately-owned stores prices for eggs have gone up from 1,5 to 1,8 manats apiece or from 43 to 52 manats per pack respectively. The post Ashgabat residents complain about unfair distribution of groceries in short supply delivered to their homes first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
