Correspondents of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” report that starting from 8 April, 2020 residents have been allowed to withdraw cash only from the ATMs owned by the bank which issued their bank cards.
For instance, if a bank card was issued by “Turkmenistan” bank, a customer can withdraw cash only in ATMs operated by the Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs.
Neither banks nor print media have informed the residents about the recently-introduced restriction.People learn about it at the ATMs when their cards are declined or from those who have already faced the same problem.
Some time ago cash machines located in front of the bank offices were moved inside the banks or to the backyards. For instance, this situation is being observed in the offices of the Turkmen-Turkish joint-stock commercial bank, located on Baba Annanov street and in the recreational park near Tekin bazaar.
This was done in an attempt to make sure that the queues are not seen from the street, which in no way resolved the problem with the shortage of cash in ATMs.
The limit for a cash withdrawal, which amounts to 800 manats a day, is still in effect in Turkmenistan.
Let us recall that since July 2019 the residents of the capital have been experiencing serious problems with cash withdrawals.
Up to several hundred people queued up in front of cash machines. The Central Bank of Turkmenistan barred people from lining up in front of ATMs.
