Ashgabat Ensures Uninterrupted Operation of Its Checkpoints on Turkmen-Afghan Border

Turkmenistan continues to ensure the uninterrupted operation of its checkpoints on the Turkmen-Afghan border, as well as the supply of electricity to Afghanistan in accordance with existing contracts, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan said in its Thursday press releases.

More than 70 railway cars and about 160 cargo vehicles are passing through Imamnazar-Akina and Serhetabat-Turgundi checkpoints every day, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in the state, adding that the cargo passing through the state border mainly consists of petroleum products, liquefied gas, grain, and consumer goods.

The Afghan side has reduced customs tariffs for imports, according to the statement.

The Turkmen Foreign Ministry said the supply of Turkmen electricity to Afghanistan also continues in accordance with existing contracts. Turkmen electricity is supplied to the country in several directions, which allows to provide electricity to such Afghan provinces as Herat, Badghis, Jowzjan, Balkh, Faryab, as well as the cities of Mazar-i-Sharif, Shibergan, Herat and others.

Construction of the 500 kV Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan high-voltage power transmission line is also ongoing.
