Ashgabat Considers Politicization of Coronavirus’s Spread Unacceptable

Emphasizing the importance of the unity and solidarity of all member states and organizations of the UN system against the common threat, official Ashgabat considers the politicization of the spread of the coronavirus unacceptable, according to the article of Turkmen Foreign Ministry, published on Monday in the country’s official media.

Turkmenistan believes that the most effective way to minimize the negative economic consequences of the pandemic is to strengthen the work of the UN specialized structures in certain key areas of the global economic recovery.

In this regard, Ashgabat, during the 76th UN General Assembly, intends to promote proposals for the establishment of the WHO Special Program for the Study of the Coronavirus Genome, the WHO Multilateral Mechanism for Pneumonia Control, the WHO Methodological Center for the Treatment and Prevention of Acute Infections and the Central Asia Regional Center of Epidemiology, Virology and Bacteriology.

Turkmenistan counts on the support of the UN member states and specialized UN agencies in the implementation of its above-mentioned proposals.

The 76th session of the UN General Assembly will open on September 14 in New York. The events will take place both online and offline. In addition, a high-level week will be held on September 21-27, at which around 110 Heads of State will participate.
