Ashgabat and Tokyo prepare for the first “Central Asia + Japan” summit at the level of heads of state

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and Head of the Japanese Foreign Ministry Takeshi Iwaya discussed preparations for the first summit “Central Asia + Japan” at the level of heads of state.

During the telephone conversation, the parties considered key issues of bilateral cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.This was reported by the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

The ministers noted the high level of interstate relations based on a trusting dialogue at the highest political level, and also discussed the importance of continuing cooperation between the foreign ministries of the two countries and exchanged views on the agenda of the next inter-MFA consultations.

In addition, the parties noted the importance of partnership between the two countries in the trade and economic sphere.The interest of Japanese companies in developing cooperation with the Turkmen side was expressed, in particular in such areas as “green” energy, decarbonization, gas chemistry, etc.

In this regard, the importance of the activities of joint committees on economic cooperation was emphasized.

In addition, the interlocutors exchanged views on upcoming events with the participation of Turkmenistan and Japan, including the prospects for the participation of the Turkmen delegation in the work of the World Exhibition EXPO-2025 in Osaka.
