Armenia reshuffles ambassadors to Turkmenistan, Syria and Iran

Armenian President Vahagn Khachatryan has made a series of personnel changes in the country’s diplomatic corps, appointing Arsen Avakyan as the new Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan, Sputnik reports.

Avakyan, who previously held the post of Ambassador to Iran, replaced Ruben Kharazyan, who in turn will head the diplomatic mission of Armenia in Syria. The post of Ambassador of Armenia to Iran was taken by Grigor Hakobyan. Ruben Kharazyan replaced Tigran Gevorgyan as Ambassador to Syria.

The new Ambassador to Turkmenistan Arsen Avakyan has extensive diplomatic experience. A doctor of historical sciences and professor, he previously held various positions in the Armenian Foreign Ministry, including the post of Charge d’Affaires of Armenia in Iran.

Avakyan speaks Russian, Turkish and English and has the diplomatic rank of Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary.
