Another Afghanistan’s district bordering Turkmenistan falls to Taliban

The information agency “Fergana” with reference to TOLOnews reports that two northern Afghanistan districts, Bilchiragh in Faryab province, which borders Turkmenistan, and Tala Wa Barfak in Baghlan province have fallen to the Taliban insurgents.

Talibans reported capturing Tala Wa Barfak district on 8 May.Head of Baghlan Provincial Council Safdar Mohseni said some key officials including district governor and district police chief are also missing following the militants attack on the area.

Following the clashes at least six soldiers were killed and 13 others were arrested by the Taliban.Moreover, some government forces vehicles were seized by the Taliban.

On 9 May, on condition of anonymity a member of the provincial council confirmed that after several hours of fighting the Talibans captured Bilchiragh district in Faryab after the militants had attacked security forces outposts. There are 10 settlements and 20 outposts in the district.

Abdul Samad Grezwani, the district governor of Gerzwan district in Faryab, warned that the area, which shares border with Bilchiragh, is also on the verge of collapse.

The gunfight spilled over to the territory of the district. “The district will fall to the Taliban if security forces do not pay attention to the situation”, the district governor said.

Let us recall that in July 2017 the Talibans took over Kohistanat distric, Faryab Province and Taiwara district in Ghor province.
