Akina-Andhoy railway branch enhances economic opportunities in Afghanistan and Turkmenistan

The construction and launch of the Akina Andkoy railway line on Afghan territory extended the length of the Kerki Imamnazar Akina railway line by another 30 kilometers, which opened up new opportunities for the economy of Turkmenistan and neighboring countries.

Now this railway has great international potential: the route is connected with a single link with the Kazakhstan Turkmenistan Iran highway. The modern railway bridges Turkmenabat - Farab and Kerki - Kerkichi across the Amu Darya, built over the years of independence, are also used for freight traffic with Uzbekistan.

It is symbolic that the routes for the supply of foreign goods are carried out along the caravan routes of the Great Silk Road that have been revived in our time.

The advantages of the route include the transportation of a large volume of cargo over long distances without transshipment, moreover, it is much cheaper compared to other modes of transport and plus a low specific fuel consumption.

The lengthened Kerki Imamnazar Akina Andkoy steel highway will serve to strengthen peace in the region, mutually beneficial cooperation and create ample opportunities for the effective implementation of transport and transit potential and active integration of our two neighboring countries into the system of modern international economic relations.

And all this is acquiring special symbolism this year, which is passing under the motto “Turkmenistan is the Motherland of Peace and Trust”, the newspaper “Neutral Turkmenistan” reports.

As a reminder, on January 14, a solemn ceremony was held to commission the Akina Andkoy railway line with the participation of the presidents of Turkmenistan and Afghanistan.

Turkmenistan and Afghanistan are implementing another transport project - the construction of the Turgundi Herat railway with a length of 173 kilometers. As new logistics routes are connected to the Akina Andkoy and Turgundi Herat railways, their role will grow as important links in the international transport corridor stretching from the Caspian to the Indian Ocean.
