Turkmenistan is preparing nominations for inclusion in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity the national traditions of Akhal-Teke horses breeding and breeding Alabai.
These and other issues were discussed at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan on Monday, November 2, during the first meeting of the National Commission of Turkmenistan for UNESCO, established on October 23 this year under the resolution of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The meeting was opened by the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov. He outlined the range of current areas of partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. Such areas as the digital technologies, climate change, water management, sport and tourism were underlined.
Special attention at the meeting was paid to the cooperation of Turkmenistan with UNESCO in the area of preserving cultural and natural heritage.Presently, three large historic-cultural reserves “Ancient Merv”, monuments of Kunya Urgench, the Parthian Fortresses of Nisa are entered into the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The folk epic “Gyorogly”, the singing and dance art “Kushtdepdi”, and the Turkmen national carpet weaving (in 2020) are entered into the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
A few more objects of cultural heritage are awaiting to be entered to the List.
The nomination for inclusion of “Dutar making craftsmanship and traditional music performing art combined with singing” into the UNESCO List of Intangible Cultural Heritage is already registered by the UNESCO Secretariat.
In addition, Turkmenistan is currently working on preparation of nominations for inclusion in the List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity the arts of Akhal-Teke breeding and Alabai breeding in accordance with international standards of UNESCO nominations.
The nomination process of entering Ashgabat into the UNESCO Creative Cities Network is completing. This Network is aimed to develop the international cooperation between the cities, which are ready to invest in art the driving force of the development of cities, social integration and advancement of culture’s impact in the world.
The work is underway on Turkmenistan’s joining the UNESCO Convention against Discrimination in Education and the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, as well as the Convention on recognition of qualifications related to higher education.
