After 45 years, an “Unplayed match” will be held in memory of the deceased “Pakhtakor” players

On August 11, Minsk will host a unique football event - “The Unplayed match”, dedicated to the memory of “Pakhtakor” players who died in a plane crash 45 years ago.

A friendly meeting between veterans of “Pakhtakor” and “Dynamo” Minsk will be held at the “Dynamo-Uni” stadium, recreating the atmosphere of that tragic day in 1979, the press service of FC “Dynamo-Minsk” reports.

The match will be attended by “Pakhtakor” players from the 1979 squad who did not make it on the fateful flight, as well as veterans of “Dynamo” Minsk, who were supposed to meet with the Tashkent team within the framework of the USSR Championship.

The organizers paid special attention to detail: players and referees will be dressed in recreated retro uniforms, and the design of the event will match the style of the 42nd USSR Major League Championship.

The tragedy that occurred on August 11, 1979, claimed the lives of 178 people, including 17 players and members of the “Pakhtakor” coaching staff. The collision of two Tu-134 aircraft in the sky over Dneprodzerzhinsk became one of the worst disasters in the history of Soviet sports.

The widows and children of the deceased athletes will be the guests of honor at the memorable match. Entrance to the stadium will be free.
