Authorities in the city of Fujikawaguchiko (Japan) decided to restrict access to a popular site overlooking Mount Fuji. For this purpose, a 20-meter mesh fence with a height of 2,5 meters was installed.
This measure was a response to increasing complaints from local residents about noise and disorder caused by the influx of tourists. Travelers who chose the area next to the convenience store often ignored parking restrictions, smoked in the wrong places, violated traffic rules and left trash.
In addition to installing the fence, the authorities also decided to introduce an additional fee of 2000 yen (about 13 USD) for everyone who wants to climb Mount Fuji. In addition, the number of participants will be limited to 4000 people per day to avoid congestion.
It is worth noting that Japan has recently become an increasingly popular tourist destination. In March 2024, the monthly number of tourists exceeded 3 million for the first time, reports “MIR 24” with reference to The Japan Times.
