About 290 people have died in a train crash in India

In the Indian state of Odisha, two trains collided - a passenger and a freight train, reports the “MIR 24” portal.

The accident occurred near the city of Balasore. Eight passenger cars derailed, the number of victims in the crash exceeded 900 people, 288 died.

More than 500 members of the National Disaster Response Force, the Odisha Rapid Response Force and the military have been involved in the rescue work.

The Indian authorities have declared a day of mourning for the dead. It is reported that the families of the victims will receive compensation of 1 million rupees (more than 12 thousand dollars), injured will be paid 50-200 thousand rupees (600-2400 dollars), depending on the severity of the injuries.
