“Demiryollary” OJSC will launch a special train for pilgrims heading to the “Kunya-Urgench” State Historical and Cultural Reserve in the northern region of Turkmenistan. This is reported on the carrier's official website.
The special train Ashgabat Kunya-Urgench Ashgabat will be launched on October 27. You can purchase tickets for it at the ticket office of the railway station of the Turkmen capital.
In addition to the pilgrimage, travelers will also be able to get acquainted with the unique natural and historical monuments of Dashoguz velayat, says a statement from “Demiryollary” OJSC.
Kunya-Urgench is an ancient city in the north of Turkmenistan, the former capital of the Horezm region. Founded in the V century BC, it flourished in the X-XIII centuries. The city was famous for its scientists, architects, and artisans. Unique architectural monuments - mosques, minarets, mausoleums, and a fortress - have been preserved on its territory.
In 2005, “Kunya-Urgench” the State Historical and Cultural Reserve was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Today it is a popular tourist destination for both Turkmen citizens and foreign citizens.
