In Ashgabat, it is planned to implement a pilot project for the separate sorting of waste on the territory of the hostel of the Magtymguly Turkmen State University.
This initiative will be implemented within the framework of the project of UNDP and the Ministry of Agriculture and Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan “Sustainable cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated development of green cities in Ashgabat and Avaza”.
On April 4, UNDP, together with the Society for the Protection of Nature of Turkmenistan, handed over plastic containers and three-section bins for sorting waste to the Department of Ecology of the Faculty of Geography of TSU.
Based on the results of the eco-project, a Methodological Manual will be prepared, according to a UNDP press release.
The UNDP project “Sustainable cities in Turkmenistan: Integrated development of green cities in Ashgabat and Avaza”, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), promotes the development of sustainable cities in Turkmenistan.
Within the framework of the project, a lot of work is being done to improve waste management in Turkmenistan.With the support of UNDP, a draft new Concept of Turkmenistan in the field of waste management was developed, regulatory legal acts were developed - “Waste classifier”, “Criteria for determining the danger of waste”.
