A Pekingese named Wild Tang wins the “World’s Ugliest Dog” contest

A Pekingese dog named Wild Tang from the US state of Oregon won the annual “World’s Ugliest Dog” competition, which was held in the Californian city of Petaluma. This is reported by daily.afisha.ru with reference to the BBC.

Wild Tang, now 8 years old, participated in this competition for the fifth time. His peculiarity is a constantly protruding tongue and a slightly strange gait, which were the result of suffering from distemper at the age of 10 weeks.

Despite these “shortcomings”, the charming dog won the hearts of the jury and the audience, becoming a real star of the event. Wild Tang, along with his owner Ann Lewis, received 5000 USD in prize money and an invitation to the NBC show.

It's worth noting that the “World’s Ugliest Dog” contest is not intended to make fun of animals. On the contrary, his goal is to show the beauty and uniqueness of every dog, regardless of appearance.

This year, 8 finalists competed for the title of “World’s Ugliest Dog”, many of whom found homes after living in shelters.

Second place went to the 14 years old pug Rome, who moves on a prosthetic wheel, and third place went to the blind and toothless dog Daisy May, whom her owners picked up on the street when she was two years old.
