A nurse shares some details of working in a COVID-19 hospital

In the next few days a fresh crew of healthcare practitioners will start a new shift in the in-patient medical facility located in one of the buildings previously owned by “Polymex” .

A correspondent of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan” interviewed a nurse working and reports that patients who have tested positive for COVID-19 are treated there.

According to the nurse, a shift lasts two weeks during which healthcare practitioners (doctors, nurses and hospital aides) are not allowed to leave the hospital. They are replaced by a new crew for another two weeks.

There is no permanent staff in these teams and crew members are being replaced every shift. The job is very demanding both physically and psychologically. After two weeks of intense work many take unpaid leave and some are exposed to COVID-19 and become infected. Some employees take sick leave because of aggravated underlying medical conditions.

According to the interlocutor of “Chronicles of Turkmenistan”, over the past months the hospital which opened in June last year is crowded with patients.Out of fear of repercussions and for personal security concerns, the nurse declined to provide the number of patients, the death rate and other details.

She simply said that there are a lot of deaths.

In August 2020 it transpired that bodies of patients who had died were handed over to family members in sealed plastic bags and ordered to bury the bodies the same day without opening the bag.

In June 2020 several buildings which used to be owned by the Turkish construction company “Polymex” were converted to facilities for COVID-19 patients. The post A nurse shares some details of working in a COVID-19 hospital first appeared on Chronicles of Turkmenistan.
