The book "The Art of Turkmen Embroidery", prepared for publication by the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, has been published.The presentation of the new edition took place today during the international exhibition and conference Bagtyýarlyk baharyň şekillendiriş sungatyndaky waspy (“Celebration of Spring in the Fine Arts”) dedicated to International Women's Day on March 8.
The new edition includes articles and materials from different years about Turkmen embroidery.
The cover of the book contains rich information about various ornaments and patterns, styles, techniques and techniques of the national art of embroidery, as well as the tools, threads and fabrics used by the craftswomen.
It contains detailed information, stories and legends about famous ancient ornaments and patterns, which reflect the cultural values of the Turkmen people.Much attention is paid to floral and animalistic patterns - evidence of the antiquity of the art of seissing Ahal-Teke horses, as well as Turkmen Alabays, falconry, etc.
The new book also tells about the wonderful traditions associated with the ancient craft of embroidery, which is an indispensable component of national clothing.
A separate chapter is devoted to the kurta (wedding women's cape), embroidered by the mother of the President of Turkmenistan - Ogulabat eje.The wedding cape was embroidered by Ogulabat eje in twenty days for the sister-in-law in 1971.
The kurte, donated by her to the State Museum, is decorated with national patterns, the inscription “1971” is embroidered on the collar using the kojeme technique, the edges are framed with camel wool alaja.
At the same time, the new edition tells about modern embroideries and the work that is currently being carried out to preserve and promote this cultural heritage, including it in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.
The book is richly illustrated, including photographs of the exhibits of the State Museum of the State Cultural Center and the country's velayat museums, where magnificent samples of women's needlework from different eras, including Turkmen hand embroidery, are carefully preserved and studied.
The authors of the book, the head and specialist of the Department of Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture of Turkmenistan, Gozel Magtymgulyeva and Gulnar Jorayeva, are sure that the material collected and systematized by them in the new edition will be in demand not only by specialists, but also by the widest range of readers.
